The Legal Gender field in the application and the Gender field on the client portal have been renamed to Sex and will now contain the following options: Undefined, Male, and Female. Since this field is used for claims, the options are limited to what is available on the claim form. Any options that were previously selected outside of the three listed will still be seen in TheraNest, but only those three options are available going forward. If you're looking for different terminology than Sex, please vote for this new idea in our UserVoice forum: https://theranest.uservoice.com/forums/914431-theranest-app/suggestions/45305851-change-sex-field-in-client-details-portal ( https://theranest.uservoice.com/forums/914431-theranest-app/suggestions/45305851-change-sex-field-in-client-details-portal ) Thank you!

Actually legal gender is what is listed on your legal documents such as birth certificate and driver's license, for transgender people this is not the same as sex assigned at birth, although it may only if someone has not had the time, energy, resources or options to change their legal gender on these documents. Either way using that terminology would be incorrect as a replacement for legal gender. You could say legal sex but some legal documents also conflate sex and gender, but this question just needs you to write whatever gender marker is on your legal documents currently and is not necessarily reflective of sex assigned at birth or current gender identity.

Jumping in to echo the statements made previously - in Simple Practice they use the phrase "administrative sex", which could be confusing, but is much clearer, as yes, this is really only needed for the 'sex' that is listed on the client's insurance, and should be better differentiated from gender identity. Regarding legal names, similarly, other systems do this differently. IntakeQ allows you to input the legal name in a separate place that designates the insurance claim default info - again, sequestering it to where it is really needed, which is for insurance claim purposes.

Please change options within the "legal gender" CMS field to M and F. These are the only ones the insurance companies will accept and other choices here leads to claims being rejected, and us having to explain to clients why we had to change their selection. I don't agree with the fact that insurance companies will only accept M and F and I like the additional field that includes the expanded options, but from a claim standpoint, it would save a lot of work to conform in the legal gender CMS field with what insurance companies will accept. (Even though insurance companies DO need to move with the times...)

Hi there! I am a member of a small group practice that uses Theranest for our clients. I am offering feedback and requesting a wording change. I am a counselor (of many queer folk), a sex and sexuality educator and queer myself. I love that you have added so many inclusive options under Gender, etc. However, your categorization and wording is not current and can be (probably unintentionally) harmful to our clients. "legal gender" is a concept that prompts heated arguments and can perpetuate misinformation. "Biological sex" or preferably "Sex Assigned at Birth" are the legal identifiers (or what they are being changed to in most places). Those are: Female (AFAB - Assigned female at birth), Male (AMAB - assigned male at birth) and Intersex. Sex Assigned at Birth includes parts and genetics and can be complicated. This is what many legal documents used to refer to as "Legal Gender". Gender Identity is the place to put all of the other identifiers such as: nonbinary, trans gender, gender fluid, cis (which I don't believe is an option on your drop down, but means your sex assigned at birth and your gender identity are the same)., etc. Gender Identity is your internal sense of who you are - as opposed to biology and parts you can see. The other 2 components (of the 4 components of sexual identity) are Gender Expression and Sexual and/or Romantic Orientation. We all have all four components, but they are mix and match. Not the same for everyone. "Legal Gender" terribly confusing terminology for many kiddos I work with who still trying to figure it all out for themselves. I want to thank you for working to be so inclusive on the form we use and hope that you are open to aligning it with accurate terminology!
